I like science because I’m essentially very nosey. I like to know why. Why does that do that? Why does this work and that doesn’t? Why is the world the way it is? Science is one of the ways that we can find out answers to these questions.

I also like science because it means that I get to travel. I go on trips to different places to look at the geology and the geography of an area. I get to go and look at volcanoes. I also get to travel to meet other scientists and talk about our ideas. I’ve seen a lot of the world because of science.

      Hi marlydaley,

I like science because we deal in facts. You don’t have to “believe” in science to make it true – it just is. Gravity doesn’t care if you believe in it or not – if you jump off the top diving board at the swimming pool then you’re going dooooown 🙂

I like science as a job because I get to learn new things every day. My work means that I have to read everyone else’s science as well as my own, so that I know what’s happening. But thats’ OK because I really like reading too 🙂

Finally, the other thing I like about science is that it constantly updates itself, so if we find out that we were wrong about something it’s OK to change your mind.

I would still rather do everything right the first time around though!!

      Hi Marlydaley,

I really like mystery books and TV shows because I like working out who the murderer is! To me, science is like loads of mysteries – loads of questions that we need to find answers to. Finding out the answer (or at least trying to!) is what makes it fun 🙂

I like science because I’m interested in how things work. When I was little I was always taking things apart and asking awkward questions. Science is about more than just learning facts and reciting them in exams. Science is a way of looking at the world (and the universe) and asking questions about how it all works. Plus there’s some really cool stuff out there (like supernovas, black holes, weird chemicals (like ferric fluids https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kL8R8SfuXp8), amazing microbes (like Conan the Bacterium https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deinococcus_radiodurans) and loads of other super awesome things that scientists have found while trying to answer questions about the universe.

I like science as I enjoy learning about the details of things, of why they work and the reasons for what we see. I also like things that are strange or go against what we are used to in every day life. For example super-conductors that can levitate when super cooled – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws6AAhTw7RA.

Or the fact that one theory of how the universe works called string theory predicts there would be 27 dimensions, not just the four we know of (length, width, depth and time).
