      Hello!

For a star to produce light it needs energy. This energy comes from nuclear fusion in the core of the star, depending on how old the star is depends on what fuel (chemical element) it ‘burns’ or fuses in its core. The sun, for example, is currently burning Hydrogen into Helium, this releases a lot of energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation (or light) which then travels in all directions across the Universe, including towards us on the Earth.

Stars are so big that they create their own gravitational field which contains all of its material in a big sphere.
