Unfortunately we can’t get rid of diabetes with current treatments. We can manage it though, and many diabetic people live normal lives.

Type one diabetes is managed by insulin injection. The insulin used to be collected from farm animals but now a lot of it is made from genetically modified microbes. Scientists are researching new treatments for type one diabetes (such as replacing the cells which were damaged) but they are quite a way from being used on humans.

Type two diabetes is managed by lifestyle changes. If you remember from the other question, type two diabetes is mostly caused by obesity. As a result, most treatment is focused on getting the people affected to lose weight and change their diet. There are also a range of drugs which can be used but people disagree about how useful they care. Weight loss surgery is another option, but it’s only used on those unable to get their weight under control through exercise and diet changes.
