Charlotte Flavell answered on 17 Jun 2014:

When I was little I was the sort of kid who always asked questions; “why is the sky blue?”, “why do fish live in water?”, “why do we have to sleep?”, why? Why? Why?
It must have been really annoying! (I still am like this!)
My dad always answered all my questions and even encouraged me to ask more. He even bought me a chemistry set one christmas and we spent all day throwing different powders in to the fire because they would burn different colours. Some were green, some blue, some bright white. He told me that this was because these were the same things they put in fireworks. Because he is a pharmacist, he knows a lot about chemistry and how different drugs work, so that’s what I became interested in too and I decided that I wanted to be a chemist who designs new drugs. That changed when I got to uni and decided brains were better than chemicals, but he’s still responsible for making me want to be a scientist.
