  1 in 8 people in the world are forced to drink dirty water….that’s nearly 1 billion people! As soon as I try to think what 1 billion people look like it makes my brain want to explode – it’s just so many. There are different ways people are trying to make sure that everyone can drink clean water. Boreholes are a good way to get clean water from deep underground up to the surface for people to drink. One of the common problems is that where people go to the loo and where people get their water from is close together, so the water can easily get polluted. We’re lucky in the UK that our water is piped to our houses so we don’t have to worry about this! So a lot of what needs to be done is education so that people understand how water can become polluted.
