Sort of…..in some of my experiments I have grown lung tissue to see what happens when the lungs come into contact with things (like air pollution when we breathe it in). To do this, you take a biopsy (which is a little sample) from a human and then feed it with the things that lungs need to grow. Over time, and with lots of care and attention, the sample grows bigger until it is ready for testing. It’s quite tempting to give it a poke and see what it feels like, but if I did I would get into a lot of trouble with my boss!

Eww what a gruesome question 🙂

I don’t think I’ve touched any lungs, but I have seen the lungs of rats and mice after they have been put to sleep. They get very small when there is no air inside them anymore. Hope that answers your question!

I have! At my school they showed us lungs once so we could learn how they work. They felt damp and a bit like sponge.

They feel like sponge because they are made up of millions of air sacs, called alveoli. It is the alveoli that fill up with air when we breath in, and where we take in oxygen.
